How to Measure Correctly
Heel-to-toe
Measure while standing with weight on the foot. Keep the heel firmly against the back stop and read at the longest toe.
Heel-to-ball / arch length
A real Brannock Device positions an arch pointer against the ball joint and reports an arch-size number. Compare that number with heel-to-toe and use the larger value.
Width
Adult Brannock widths are spaced 3/16 inch apart and vary with shoe length. This page estimates a width letter from a straight forefoot-width measurement. A physical Brannock width bar remains more authoritative.
Children's width
The Junior Device uses a sliding width scale rather than the adult T-bar. Because the official width grid is size-dependent, this page reports children's width as Narrow / Medium / Wide / Extra Wide from the measured proportions rather than pretending to reproduce an exact physical Junior slide reading.
